this question was PM'd to me and thought i'd reply here so that everyone has access:
"Dumb question but is there a way when I am on the phone to take numbers down on a note pad or something, so that when i hang up the call the number is still available to store - Or do i have to go to MemoPad and create a new one and then save it?
Just thought there might be something easier to do.
Regards
Tom"
Here are two quick ways as i have to go to work at 8am:
1) (4.1 OS) During a call press the track wheel and select 'Notes'. Type what you need to save (Numbers, names, directions etc) then press use the menu to select hide notes. After the call is complete you should still be in the phone record view... highlight the last call, press the track wheel and select 'View History'. You will see the tiny note icon on calls that u made notes. (Or the actual note if only one call to that number) To view or edit select and open 'edit notes'.
Cool Feature: I make often use of the forward feature. If I receive a call to remind me of a meeting that involves my Boss, coworker etc, I forward the call with the notes and details of the meeting to their email address(es). (Many other uses of course)
Here's a forward test from a call just made, forwarded to my email where I cut and pasted:

2) (All OS versions) Simple hold in the alt key and press escape. (equivalent of alt + tab on windows). Then you can select 'messages', 'home screen' or wherever you need to access during that call for the info you need.
BTW: You don't have to be on a call to use this feature. You may be writing an email and you need to check your Calendar for info to include. Alt + escape key and go to homescreen, scroll to Calendar then alt + escape key again and select 'messages' and you'll be returned right back to the email being composed.

Hehe, maybe I'm old school, but I still carry a pen and some paper with me. Its still the most reliable way to take notes. Of course after I take them, I copy them into my BB.
I have taken notes during a call on my bb and its a great feature if you have a bluetooth its even better because you could type everything while on the call very useful
