New Features over the 8700

GPS

The BlackBerry 8800 comes with a built-in Global Positioning System (GPS). Use it with a mapping application like BlackBerry® Maps and you can view your current location with greater accuracy and track your route to your target destination. Built-in GPS also gives you access to a wide range of other Location-Based Services (LBS), like employee and resource tracking, social networking and more.

BlackBerryMaps

With BlackBerry Maps, finding your way couldn't be easier. Check maps and get turn-by-turn directions quickly and conveniently - wherever you are. You can launch maps by typing or pasting in an address, or simply by clicking on an address in your address book. Visiting a new client? Save yourself some time and effort. Copy and paste in the address and get directions as you drive

Multimedia Player

Access your music and video files when and where you choose. The BlackBerry 8800 smartphone comes equipped with a media player, so you can plug in a stereo headset, then kick back with your favorite tunes while you reply to messages. Or download news or sports clips and watch them on its large, bright screen, while you're catching your train in to work.
You can play back music and video in all kinds of popular formats. Expandable memory means you can save your favorites on a microSD card.

Expandable Memory

Don't worry about storage space. A microSD card for your BlackBerry® 8800 means you've got the room you need for your pictures, music and videos. And transferring files between the BlackBerry 8800 and your desktop computer is a snap. Connect up via the USB cable that comes with the smartphone and transfer content directly to or from your microSD card or internal memory. You can also use Bluetooth technology to move your files. The BlackBerry 8800 accepts microSD cards; the amount of storage is determined by card capacity.
Voice-Activated Dialing (VAD)

TrackBall

The BlackBerry 8800 sets new standards for ease-of-use. Its trackball navigation system makes using this smartphone incredibly intuitive you just use your thumb to scroll and click. Hate technology that makes you work hard? BlackBerry 8800 is designed to simplify your life, so you can get things done, and get on to the things that matter.

Setup Wizard

You'll get to know the BlackBerry 8800 quickly. A time-saving tutorial helps you with the set-up process, walks you through the features and functions, and explains how to personalize settings so you can make your smartphone truly your own.

Higher Capacity Battery

Although it’s packed with powerful new features, the BlackBerry 8800 provides the same uncompromising battery life BlackBerry smartphones have always been known for, thanks to an innovative new high-capacity battery. So you have the power to make the most of it all.

Is it just me :>) could be...the user's guide for the 8800 isn't coming up. It tells me "done" and then nothing is on the screen. I haven't had trouble with the other links.

Thanks in advance.

I bought an 8800 last Sunday and was working fine till tonight. The problem I had now is that everytime I switch it on a security software check wxewcuted automatically, when 100% completed an error message " Uncaught exception : java.lang,ClassCastException appeared. The 8800 then rendered useless. How do I get around this problem?

Could be a number of things. In settings, there is an option that will lock the phone upon holstering. I know that is probably obvious, but sometimes the little things are overlooked. If you have your phone set to not allow answering while locked, and also set to lock while holstered, you cannot receive calls. Do you look at the screen before you answer? Maybe you're hitting the end key while removing from holster?

Love this phone, just wish it had a camera. And with Verizon, they have really locked up the GPS to force you to use their service...

AT&T won't let you use BlackberryMaps - you can use Google Maps, though!

BB Maps will work on the AT&T 8820 but you have to go through the .alx file hacks to get it to work and show up in applications. It works fine on my 8820.
