Fully detailed. Easy to read.
To start, you need:
- gmail.com address
- psi client
Psi client is available at:
http://psi.affinix.com
It's multi platform / multi OS.
Because Google Talk offers no services, you will need an additional jabber account from another server.
To find a list of jabber servers:
http://www.xmpp.net
Use the psi wiki for help with setting up a jabber account on a server and then register for gateway services (this is where you add your MSN / aol / yahoo log in and obtain your contact lists).
Once you have a jabber account set up, and your services added, and your buddies imported, then you're ready to go back to Google Talk in psi client. When logged into GT on the psi client, you can add a service of a server other than google.
Then what happens is basically this:
- you sign in to Google Talk with your @gmail.com name
- Google Talk automatically signs in to the jabber server of the other account you added to GT
- that jabber server logs in to your MSN / yahoo / aol
The set up is a bit of a show, and the subsequent underlying process seems a bit confusing, but it works. And it takes only about 3 seconds more to sign in to all of that and see your contacts from all those IM platforms in Google Talk.
The only snag is to find a reliable jabber server. I've gone to three different servers before finding one that is reliable.
Anyway, after all that is done, then you're ready to download GT 4 BB. Get that ota @

The next step is to streamline Google Talk on your BlackBerry with other apps. To do this you need to add the jabber email addresses of your GT contacts to their respective address book entries.
For example:
My Friend:
His MSN login is
My.Friend@hotmail.com
Me:
I have set up my jabber account:
Me@myjabber.com
Google Talk sees My Friend through the myjabber.com server.
Myjabber.com sees My Friend through the gateway.
Google Talk contact looks like:
My.Friend%hotmail.com@msn.myjabber.com
In my address book on BB, I already have My Friend's email as
My.Friend@hotmail.com
I will also add a second email address My.Friend%hotmail.com@msn.myjabber.com
This will allow the Google Talk application on the BlackBerry to see the address book entry and give click wheel access to chat, email, SMS, and phone call.
Phew! I'm spent!
It's a bit much to wrap the mind around at first, I admit. But it works.
Get through that, and you're GOLD!
