Post How to: Reset your BlackBerry

Purpose:
People often don't know when / how to reset their BlackBerry when they have a problem, this guide will cover the methods, reasons, and order in which resets should be done.

Reason:
There are many reasons to reset a BlackBerry, in general when things are just not working the way they should a reset is likely to correct the problem.

Some possible reasons to perform a reset (there's many reasons, here's just a sample):
1. Corrupt display
2. No network connection even though radio turned on (note that you could try to re-register on the network first)
3. JVM Error message displayed (you will want to backup your device and reload the firmware asap)

Models:
All models except the 850/857

There are three different types of resets, and they should be tried in order...

1) Power cycle - simply turn the device off, then on
2) Soft-Reset - Hold down ALT + CAP + DEL
3) Hard-Reset - Locate and push the reset button using a paper-clip.

Note: The BB-7100 and BB-7290 and BB-7520 do not have reset buttons, on these you need to remove the battery (gently) wait a few seconds and then re-insert the battery. Be careful as you do not want to damage the contacts (or get them dirty for that matter).

Reset-Button Locations:
67xx / 95x / 77xx - On the back, at the bottom of the unit (small hole)
62xx / 72xx - Underneath the battery cover (small hole, marked as RESET)
6510 / 7510 - By the battery (small hole)

No reset button:
71xx / 7290 / 7520

The thing I like about Pin Stack is that although it caters to the professionals the beginners can catch up. Nice how hayden.

Your soft reset should be: Hold Alt Cap Del at the same time.
Hard reset: Remove battery, wait 30+ seconds and reinsert.

macdall, Welcome to PinStack.

Try removing the Battery, wait for 30 seconds, then reinstalling it. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

My 7100T has gone into the "infinite startup" FOUR times in the last week. It's sooo annoying. Each time I've had to totally erase and reinstall. I bought it used, am I totally screwed? Two times that it happend I switched my SIM card to another phone, once I tried to look at my calendar and it locked up, and the last time I pulled it out of my pocket. Any suggestions??

Rcbjr - is there a way to completely reset your handheld? I have only had my Pearl for a few weeks, but I am having problems that I think I created. I want to completely start over. So I need to reset it and have the Pearl just like it was when it came out of the box. I tried the "remove the battery for 30 seconds" idea. My Pearl came back on with all of my contacts, calendar, etc. still in there.

Any other way to accomplish what I am seeking to do?

Thanks.

It's the same way as I wrote here for the 8800, wipe the handheld...

Okay, I wiped the handheld and started over. Now my contacts won't synchronize from Outlook to my handheld. The calendar does synch, but not the contacts or tasks.
