Thanks to the people at BerryReview...

Thanks to the people at BerryReview for bringing this to our attention!

The good folks at RIM never sleep! They've updated both Google Talk and Windows Live Messenger to version 2.1.37. Don't know why the synchronization of version numbers..... The folks at BerryReview didn't mention it, but the Yahoo! Messenger client is now also version 2.1.37. Quite a coincidence!

Google Talk (RIM): 2.1.37 - OTA/Web (IM)

Windows Live Messenger: 2.1.37 - OTA/IE Web Install (Works on AT&T!)

Yahoo! Messenger (RIM): 2.1.37 - OTA/IE Web Install (IM - STILL Does NOT work with AT&T!!!)

.
One thing they don't mention is that with these new clients integrate with the BlackBerry's Address Book! Once installed, your Contacts have a new field for the IM Client you've installed. I've seen it with Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and even Enterprise Messenger for Office Communicator 2007! Very nice touch indeed! The only thing is that info is BlackBerryCentric! That is, Other than on your BlackBerry, it doesn't appear to be saved in Outlook's Contacts on a BES.

And while we're on the subject of RIM's Instant Messaging clients, did you know there's a single, simple URL you can go to on your BlackBerry which will scan your device and determine based on Model and Carrier what RIM IM Clients are available?

Simply point your BlackBerry's Browser to:
http://www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging

Click the [Search] button on that page, and your device will be scanned, and a page built with all the clients available with OTA installation links.

Well that's the theory anyway. My list includes Yahoo! Messenger, but it still doesn't work on AT&T! :red: Yes, I know the work around, but don't have the service book for Yahoo - or AIM or ICQ for that matter!

IM Client versions updated on the Mini Version Tracker list.
.

Well, right now I'm working on three themes:

BoldBerry
9Berry
and a new theme, PrecisionBerry

They'll all use the same NEW icon set. I'm just looking to do some different things and make everything work right.

PrecisionBerry will be released in two versions: 4.5 and 4.6. the 4.6 version will allow for users to change the icons on the home screen. It will ONLY be offered as a bottom Zen and Today Plus, unless there's a big outcry for something else too.

As for release dates, I don't know. My best estimation: "when it's done". I've got a lot of other things going on, so it might take some time. However, I think everyone will be really pleased with the way things turn out.

How to burn DRM encrypted iTunes music to MP3 for BlackBerry

Are you annoyed by iTunes DRM? Do you want to strip it off because you want to play the iTunes...

Are you annoyed by iTunes DRM? Do you want to strip it off because you want to play the iTunes music on other mobile devices other than iPod and iPhone, use it as background music in a home video, or anything else that DRM limits it to do? Many people know you can strip off the DRM off iTunes music by simply burning the song to a CD, and ripping it back over, losing very little quality(if settings are correct):

1. Insert a CD-R or CD-RW disc into your CD-ROM drive. You'd better use CD-RW disc as it can be used for more than once.
2. Burn your playlist to make an audio CD. You cannot select the MP3 CD option since it requires the encrypted iTunes music files be converted to unprotected MP3 files.
3. After the audio CD is successfully burned, insert the disc into your CD-ROM drive again. Then you can use iTunes to import the music tracks on the burned disc to MP3 files.

And the method I am going to introduce does the same exact thing but you will not need a CD-RW disc, a CD ROM drive, or even need to burn anything! It's that simple. Let's show you how to perform this.

We are going to be using a program called TuneClone. TuneClone is basically a program that acts as a virtual CD drive that allows you "burn" MP3 from iTunes and "rip" it. TuneClone "lies" to your computer saying that you have a CD-RW drive that it will burn to (like Alchohol 120%). You can use this to move your library of M4P DRM protected music to the MP3 format that you can use on any player out there worth its salt. This is a useful tool for anyone looking to break their relationship with the iPod. The best part is that it maintains all of the music file's metadata. Below is the step by step tutorial that shows how it works:

1. Download TuneClone from http://www.tuneclone.com and install it.

TuneClone is fully compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista. A virtual CD Burner will be installed. This virtual CD-RW will be used to convert music files.

2. Make settings at TuneClone

Click the Settings button at TuneClone. In the pop-up window, you can specify the output folder, output filenames, output format, etc. for the output files.

Note: Apart from MP3, TuneClone also allows you to convert iTunes M4P to WAV and unprotected WMA.

Tip: You can get the output protection removed music folder by clicking the Folder button after the whole process.

3. Make settings at iTunes(iTunes 8 )

Create a playlist, and then add the files you want to convert into the playlist.

After you have created the playlist ready to be burnt, click the Burn Disc in the bottom right of iTunes.

In the pop up window of Burn Settings, make the settings as highlighted below:

4. Start to burn

Click the Burn button to start burning.

After the burning gets started, TuneClone will automatically convert the music file to MP3, WMA or WAV. You can open the manager screen to show all the converted music files.

The most important step is to choose the CD burner. Then the software can convert the music files automatically. It is exceedingly easy when you want to batch convert lots of files.

The Best Touch Screen Yet...

The BlackBerry Storm is looking like the best of all the touch screen devices to date. Now RIM...

The BlackBerry Storm is looking like the best of all the touch screen devices to date. Now RIM finally has a direct competitor to the iPhone. When comparisons are drawn it will be a fair scenario, as the Bold vs iPhone comparison was always a bogus way for Apple fanatics to attack RIM. The playing field is level for these two devices and it will be very interesting to see how it plays out. Then to add to the excitement will be the RIM App Store. I read an article today where the general assessment was that this store will be very similar to the iTunes site. This will be quite a combination, one which if executed properly will indeed be a very serious threat to Apple. Time will tell, and we have a great seat in the theater to watch this all do down.

Cheers

A while back I looked at Instago IM and found it NRFPT (Not Ready For Prime Time).

Well they've released a Beta and it is a VAST improvement over their initial release! So much so that the Mini Tracker List doesn't even have the release client listed.

If you're looking for a free, Multi-Network, Multi-Client, try it out! I couldn't get the SMS to work, but I have a HUGE Address Book which it didn't seem to appreciate, and it may be only for the paid version.
InstaGo Beta: 0.68.85 - Web (Free IM - All networks & SMS?)

The link above will bring you to their Forum. Read the How to join Blackberry Beta thread, create your Instago account, then read the latest Beta thread to get the OTA Link. Currently it's listed as Beta Version 0.68.40, but the links in the article are for the minor revisions to version 0.68.85.

well lets see, Im still waiting for the 8820 4.5 OS to come out for ATT i tried the other Versions...

well lets see, Im still waiting for the 8820 4.5 OS to come out for ATT i tried the other Versions of 4.5 but I just don't trust them. Also I had a thought yesterday morning as I was lying in bed on my BB. All this technology BB and other smart phones have to offer is excellent I love it, some people says it makes life easier? does it really though? or is it just making us lazy? I as laying in bed yesterday morning reading emails trading stocks and with my employees all at the same time, And i didn't even have to get out of bed!!!! I believe in the long run this technology will make our society lazier then it already is. Were moving into a time period where we can be entertained 24/7 without even leaving out bed! in years to come the advancements will be so significant we may not have to get out of bed at all. Also another problem I see with BB technology is companies now have the power to have there employees working 24 hours a day, Yes you might think its great that work gave you this new smart phone to use for work o answer emails And when you have some free time you can hop on your BB and answer some work related emails, but your never giving your mind significant time away from work to relax and think about anything else but work and eventually you will burn yourself out to a point where you hate working. Many people don't believe this can happen but i have experienced this first hand, my father was like this always had his laptop BB on his lap constantly checking stock quotes for the next day and reading news and it would be 9pm and he never gave his brain time to rest and do nothing and now he has this notion that he works all the time and hes burnt out and doesn't want to work any longer, yet still has 10 years till he can retire...

final thought:
yes BBs are excellent we as a society thrive off technology, but you have to see that your company got you that BB so you would be accessible 24/7 and able to answer work emails and any problems that may arise after you have punched out for the day. Turn the BB off and let your brain relax watch some TV or read a book do something that allows your brain to work at minimal capacity.

good luck and god help us BB addicts

"BlackBerryGate"... is what I've decided to call this now rather ugly, long, ongoing saga of "can...

"BlackBerryGate"... is what I've decided to call this now rather ugly, long, ongoing saga of "can we get the Bold released in the USA?"

The Plot sickens.... or is that thickens? I am compelled to write about this latest episode. In street level vernacular I might write it as; WTF is going on here? This is turning into the stuff of tell all books. For those who may have missed it, we now have the RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, stepping up to the podium proclaiming "It's all AT&T's fault". To the best of this writers knowledge, this is the first time Mr. Lazaridis has come out publicly against his best strategic partner in the USA, the very company in that helped put RIM on the public stage. In one of the largest target markets in the world. Yes, this all went down on Thursday 10.3.08. And as most of you know with the meltdown of the US financial sector, this news about RIM's latest "reason" for the delay was not exactly front page news. And yet to us hard core, BlackBerry using, smartphone toting, email addicted... heck who am I kidding? We are BlackBerry Addicted. So with a sigh of resignation as I too come to the realization (not that it was a surprise) that this signals the potential for even more delays, as we are now entering month number five. Announced in May as "to be released in the summer", well, summer came and went, the press had their fun with it, and now it's become the butt of jokes. I take little solace in the fact that in the statement from AT&T it was "mentioned" that they assure us the phone will be out before the year is over... Yeah right!

Sheesh!
At least I have a fully functional, reliable 8310 right now.

Cheers

There is a certain beauty in simplicity...
Yes there is. The simpler the better. And yet we live...

There is a certain beauty in simplicity...
Yes there is. The simpler the better. And yet we live in a fast paced challenging world where simplicity is often the last thing to come to mind first. Especially for those of us that live here in the USA. We live in the most materialistic free enterprise market environment in the world. It's all about expectations. It's all about more, not less. It's about keeping up with your peers, making more, having more, doing more. More...More...More. Phew!
.
Slow down & Breathe...
Yes...I'm listening to myself as I write this. After all its a great goal to have. The simplicity which is available to all of us for free. To take time, look around, enjoy the beauty of nature. It's everywhere, even if one lives in a big city. It's still there, we just have to look a bit more. We simply have to slow down more. And that, my friends, is what it's all about. Peace, happiness & joy. Remember, There is a certain beauty in simplicity...

Pure Conjecture...

When one is left without the facts, an available choice is pure conjecture. Thus I sit here speculating on just what RIM is up to. Here we have a company that while not perfect, has hit more than it's share of home runs. A world class company. A company with a string of successes that continues today. Thus I wonder, just what _is_ happening with the BlackBerry Bold in the USA? Rumors abound. Speculation runs rampant. Just what are they thinking? What are they doing? Models like the BlackBerry Flip that weren't even on the radar prior to the Bold, have since come to fruition and are passing the Bold on their way to market. The touch screen BlackBerry was hidden from the public's eye. So much R&D, so many new devices since we were first made aware of the Bold. It leaves one wondering just what _is_ the strategy? Is this truly a matter of rangling over issues which prevent it's release in the USA, or are there other factors at work here? Without witnessing it's release in other countries, the stimulation for asking oneself these questions would not be so great. However as I look across the worldwide landscape it becomes a compelling question. One which begs an answer. An answer that will only be known _after_ we here in the USA receive our BlackBerry Bold.

When I first installed this application I was very impressed. Nice layout, quick, customizable portfolio. Some of the sections seemed like they might be a bit behind - the Analyst, Ratings, and Understanding the Market sections had articles a day to a week old. Well maybe that's just how those sections works.

Then I realized this installs and runs as a resident application! Not only can you not exit it, but there is no update interval settings - it's just either on or off.

I wouldn't call any of these issues show stoppers, and at this point I don't know if it will stay installed, but I'll give it a chance for a few days and see how badly it salls my BlackBerry and drain the battery.

TheStreet.com: 2.1.0.2 - OTA / Info

It also dawned on me that I just added Bloomberg the other day. So how come all of these financial apps are coming out now when the next great depression is at our doorstep? Whatever!
