| Pinstack.com - Forum Rules & Guidelines |
New users: Please read our all-in-one new users Guide!
Note: Failure to follow rules & guidelines below may result in Trust point deductions.
We’ve created the
Pinstack.com Blackberry database
which has a collection of
Blackberry FAQs, User Guides,
Reviews and general Articles for
all things RIM Blackberry
related. Also we saved a
collection of useful
Guides and Select forums threads
you will often find what you are
looking for there.
Search the Forums
Before you ask a question,
search the forums to
see if your question has
previously been asked (and
answered). There’s a wealth of
Blackberry information already
in the forums, and the chances
are good that your question has
already been answered. However, please do not tell other members to use the search feature. This is a DISCUSSION forum, if you don't have or don't want to answer or entertain discussion on a simple thread then don't reply esp if to suggested the user to search, other friendly PinStackers will reply. Telling or hinting to other users to use search WILL result in an infraction or ban if repeated after warning. On the other hand, we do privately contact users who repeatedly ask questions that can be easily found using the search feature. If you'd like to help then use the "report post" feature to alert us of such users.
Post in the Correct Forum
For example, if you just got
your new BlackBerry 8700g, and
having trouble with email do not
post in the “RIM Blackberry
8700” forum, but in the
Email (BIS, Webclient)
forum. The Blackberry 8700,
Blackberry 7100, etc should be
used when your question does not
fall under other forums such as
RIM handheld software, 3rd Party
Software, Themes Tone Wallpaper.
Take a moment to familiarize
yourself with
our forums. You’ll
notice we have forums dedicated
to all major Blackberry topics,
plus some related topics like
Carrier & Networks, 3rd
Party Software or Themes
Tones Wp. If in doubt, just
ask. Our Moderators and Stack
Leads are real people just like
you, and they’re happy to jump
in and give you a hand whenever
needed!
Use a Descriptive Title
Make it easier for everyone by
providing a descriptive title.
"Please help!" and "I have a
problem" are poorly worded
titles. Instead, describe your
question or problem in the
title, like "What is Cingular's
APN setting?" or "How do I
filter email to my Blackberry?."
This makes it easier for people
with the answers to find your
post and provide an answer.
Provide Details
When you have a question or need
help, the more detail your
provide, the better someone will
be able to help. Your Blackberry
Operating System (OS) version),
3rd party software version,
Blackberry device model, and
Network Carrier are some useful
details. Mainly, you should
provide the details necessary
for someone else to reproduce
your problem.
Make relevant, meaningful
posts
Every post on PinStack should
add some sort of value to the
forum, whether through technical
value or community value.
Threads and posts that do not
further the BlackBerry community
will be locked or deleted at the
discretion of the Moderators. For example replying to a days, weeks or months old thread posted by a new member with a reply of "Welcome to pinstack!" serves no benefit to the forum. However, replying to old technical threads or other BlackBerry related threads with updated or additional info is not only welcomed but encouraged. Keep in mind the value of each post before posting.
Update 11/06/07 - As long as the thread is BlackBerry related there's no harm in replying to it. Only off topic and welcome threads will be penalized. Replying to old "content" threads can be useful as in some cases they can be updated since they may contain useful but outdated info. However, if a newer thread exist the Mod team will at times close the thread you replied to with a reply to the updated/newer related thread. Thus effectively forwarding all traffic to the best possible info.
Cross posting
Do not post your question in
multiple forums.
Cut and pasting of external content and news articles.
In order to protect PinStack.com from copyright issues and to protect
the copyright content and media of other sites: Do not cut and paste
text or images from external content and news sites. All such
posts will be removed. You may link to external news articles but you
must provide your own description. However, we reserve the right to delete all
such posts if we deem as an abuse of our service, SPAM, to raise Trust Level or
for any reason we see fit without notification or warning.
Double posting
Double posting is not allowed and can result in the deletion of one or both posts. Double posting is defined as posting the same information in two or more separate forums. We understand that some topics might fit into more than one forum. Please try to pick the best one. In addition, please do not post in the same thread back to back (another version of double posting), if you have something more to add, edit your post, don't post twice in a row in a thread.
Images
If you need to share an image to
clarify a problem or explain a
solution, you can attach or link
to an image in your post. Please
keep the image size down to no
more than 520 pixels in width
and 600 pixels in height;
this helps viewers running at
lower resolutions see things
properly.
Use Color and Fonts Sparingly
Resist the urge to get artistic,
and use colors and fonts
sparingly, usually to emphasize
a small piece of text in your
entire post. Do not change the
color or font of your entire
post or there's a good chance a
moderator will change it back.
We've chose the default font and
colors to make it easily
readable for everyone; please
respect those choices.

ALL CAPS abuse - Do not post new threads or replies in all caps. Use caps to stress areas within the body of your post but all caps should NOT be used for thread titles. The Moderation Team will delete such threads or posts.
No thread hijacking
Hijacking a thread is taking a
thread completely off subject
from the initial purpose of the
thread. Please give fellow
Stackers the respect of keeping
their legitimate threads on
topic. Thanks... -

As for how to do it, I generally
perfer a more subtle approach. I
simply make a post that is on
topic. I try to work in a
related question or idea that
will spin off on topic replies.
I don't want to make anyone feel
bad for getting off topic, as we
all do it. Generally speaking it
works. -

only permitted, but encouraged!

about the Internet. Just make

contain pornography, warez or

competitor websites and other
Blackberry forums is prohibited.
Although we do link to other
Blackberry websites and forums
